Two people showed up on the irc with the same problem yesterday or the day before that. Tried two different OSes, Updated all drivers, including sound, usb etc, turned off and *disabled* windows firewall, uninstall antivirus and reinstall all active-x controls, did some security settings magic in IE, DMZ... nothing worked.
The only thing we haven't tried so far is downgrading to IE7. Is there anything else that I've been overlooking?
I am at a complete loss about what to do now. I can't help anyone because so far we've tried everything I could think of and there are no common factors at all. I honestly doubt it's a BIOS problem and I can't recommend someone to flash or otherwise touch their BIOS. If you don't know what you're doing you are very likely to mess shit up real bad and I can't trust someone on the internet who says "yeah i know what the bios is." chances are that if you know how to take care if your bios you would have done so already.

Unfortunately there is no method as of right now to reinstall IE7 on vista or windows 7. As long as they have XP they should be able to do just that.
As for vista: I first attempted a reset of all the setting in IE8 through the rudimentary tool-> settings-> reset. Then a complete reinstall of IE8, however I don't think I deleted every single file related to it on my computer, so that's another try.

You could use a proxy but if you want one you can play games with you'll have to pay. I used www.your-freedom.net/ to play DFO. @ltf If you haven't tried this already, in IE8 do as follows: Tools > InPrivate filtering settings > advanced settings > Toolbars and Extensions > All add-ons See if all NHN Corp and SoftForum add-ons are enabled. Also Tools > Internet Options > Privacy > Sites add hangame to exceptions and allow.

Hmm, I had also played with those settings before however when I look again there is no SoftForum add-on.
And I added hangame on the list of allowed sites as one of my earlier attempts.

I would recommend using www.virtualbox.org/ instead of microsoft virtual pc. It's simple, easy to configure without any extra bullshit like microsoft has and it's really light on resources.

Too late. anyways... A launcher popped up. So IE 8 is the problem. HOWEVER,when using a VM, it doesn't recognize that MHFO is already installed so it tries to download the installer. It's also very. very. slow. Anyone know a way around this?

You mean that the game is slow on the VM? That's why I recommended Virtualbox. I run a 1GHz, 512MB ram VM with 20GB of hdd space and play games on it no problem. Obviously you need a computer with resources to spare, but at least VB is not the resource hog which I expect MS VPC is.

well that's sweet.
That means when the error becomes more widespread in korea they will seek to find a workaround or fix, as they have to address the issue at some point.
I will give this virtualbox a go and see how it works out in terms of recording quality after I toy around with it, thatnks for that option.
I just got my controller so I guess it's time to give this a try...tomorrow. hoho.

Maybe there already is a fix
It's just all in korean.
Something I don't understand, though, is that I've read around these forums and other forums and people with Windows7 have been able to play it perfectly fine.
except windows7 comes with IE8 and there is no way to downgrade to IE7.
Do they all use VMs?
edit: Pretty sure there is a way to restore IE7 to vista as it comes with vista. Unfortunately for me, I use windows7.

Well it seems that IE8 is only an update and not truly IE itself, so if you uninstall IE8 on vista, it reverts to internet explorer 7.
HOWEVER, this did not fix the problem. I'm digging around in all the old settings...enabling shit and so on.
