Okay, someone had to do it.
What is Touhou?Touhou Project is a series of danmaku (bullet hell) games. They are similar to regular shooting games, but focus more on weaving through complex patterns containing anywhere from dozens to hundreds of bullets. All of them take place in the land of Gensokyo, a small place of Japan sealed by the Hakurei Barrier, which isolates it. It resembles feudal Japan
The first windows game (there are 5 more games for PC-98) is
Touhou 6 EoSD, Embodiment of Scarlet Devil.
Story:
It takes place in Gensokyo. A strange red mist appears and blocks the sun. Playing as Reimu Hakurei(the shrine maiden of the Hakurei Shrine) or Marisa Kirisame(a magician) you must battle through 6 stages towards the source of the red mist, and face the Scarlet Devil behind it all.
Gameplay:
Embodiment of Scarlet Devil features two different playable characters to choose from, with two different Spell Card types each. Its gameplay is similar to the PC-98 ones, moving with the arrow keys, shooting with z, using a bomb(spellcard) with x and slowing the character(and concentrating the shots) with shift.
About the lives, the character has a hitbox, which is the real part of the character that musnt touch any shot. It is smaller than the sprite, like 5x5 pixels.
Some images of the game:
Touhou 7: Perfect Cherry Blossom
PCB is the 7th game of the series and the 2nd one released to windows.
Story:
It takes place in Gensokyo, as usual. In Gensokyo is already May, yet the winter shows no signs of stopping. Playing as Reimu, Marisa or Sakuya( the head maid of the Scarlet Devil Mansion) you must fight through 6 stages and 2 extra stages to uncover the truth behind the stolen spring
Gameplay:
Perfect Cherry Blossom features three different playable characters to choose from, with two different Spell Card types each. Reimu Hakurei can weave through the smallest gaps with ease, and her attacks deal low to decent damage, depending on which type you use. Marisa Kirisame relies on her speed and power to compensate for her thin attack area, but the amount of power she wields is very considerable. Sakuya Izayoi has even wider and more versatile attacks than Reimu, but can be quite tricky to use and maneuver.
The gameplay is very similar to EoSD, but Perfect Cherry Blossom introduces the "Cherry" scoring system. Almost every part of the game is linked with the "Cherry Meter": shooting enemies increases your Cherry points, bombing or dying decreases your Cherry points, reaching 50,000 Cherry+ points gives you a temporary shield. The higher the Cherry Gauge becomes, the more points you gain from Point Items.
Touhou 7.5: Immaterial and Mising Power
IaMP differs from the other games in the Touhou Project series in that instead of being a Shoot-em-up, it is a fighting game with a heavy slant toward projectiles.
Story:
While making preparations for the feast three days away, Reimu is distracted by a strange powerful mist that is covering Gensokyo. She and many other inhabitants of Gensokyo (such as Alice and Patchouli) go to investigate.
Gameplay:
Its not like the other games at all. Instead of being a danmaku game, its a fighting one, very similar to M.U.G.E.N.
You use the arrow keys to move and 4 keys used to do punch, kick and bullet attacks, and another key used to dash. The bullet attacks consume energy, which reloads after a while. You can use spellcards too, using powerfull attacks which consume a big portion of energy(like Marisa´s Master Spark or Sakuya´s Killing Doll)
ZA WARUDO!
I suppose i cant show any download links, so google for it.
Thanks to the touhou wiki for all the info.
If you want some more info about the other games, tell me and i will post it( and some photos too)
