Hi all lets discuss about bow damage and kind of arrow damage. first, i want to ask about damage, if we shoot 3 or 5 arrows, how much damage for each arrow? second, we charge when we want to shoot. how much % damage deal for each level of charge? (lvl1 no flash, lvl2 flash 1 time,lvl3 flash 2 times,lvl4 flash 3 times(ex. skill lvl4 flash appear when we using rathian armor set). third, how piercing arrows work? piercing arrow has 4 lvl arrow. how much damage of each level? when we shoot piercing arrow, we can see that the damage deal more than 1 time. if we draw it like so, how much damage dealt for the 2nd damage? if you have suggestion, please tell me. thank you !

Hi, This is from MHFU and most likely remains the same. As you can see, it's well worth it to charge, and this is why people get pissed off at people that spam lvl 1 scatter shot. Spamming arrows doesn't give you greater damage, due to the damage formula it becomes incredibly useless, obviously to prevent abuse. When an arrow is "inside" a monster it just affects the closest hitzone which is probably the stomach or back - you may notice when a Lao Shan or other large monster dies that the model is hollow. There's no internal hitzone.

All shots are most likely affected by monster defense.
I haven't seen a damage formula for frontier, so cannot be certain.
For Large monsters HEAD->TAIL (Volga, Lao, Gravios) pierce is better most times, but for smaller monsters, Rapid/Scatter are better.

I honestly can't remember if this is true, but bow damage is also determined based on how many 'hops' you are away from a target. Keeping yourself a good 5-6 hops away is ideal for damage, I think.
All I know is, is when I used all the starter weapons on Kut-Ku's on my new character - the starter bow killed the poor thing the fastest.
So always stay at medium range, and make sure you have the right shot for the right monster. For example, using a pierce bow with poison on a green plesioth leads to a VERY quick victory. But pierce stinks on most wyvern/bird-types. I'll let you know if I come up with any more advise, because I really want to be bow-centric this time around.

Did you not read what I posted?
Just look. 5 hits.

I believe pierce arrows have the 'potential' to hit up to a certain number of times, based on that chart Yukiiko posted. But you'll just have to judge for yourself how many hit on average. It should make a sound effect and 'spark' each time it hits. So after 10 or so test shots to various parts, if you're finding it hard to get the full 5 hits out of a Lvl4 shot, you may want to try Wide/Rapid shot on the target instead.
I'd have to write a guide for all the monster types, and it would all be from deductive reasoning more than tested experience, since my only experience is with pierce shot. (I specifically learned bows to solo Plesioth.) But I can't write a guide right now - I'm graduating and doing the job hunt thing.
But I'll try and answer any questions you've got, Ahiung. :3

i did a research. as my result LVL4 piercing arrow make 8 times spark damaging on very big monster like akantor. we must stand 1 hoop behind from that monster to make 8 times damage. but i think the damage from 8x times are vary.
