I have upgraded my rathian armor pieces and i have 3 choices now.
1. continue the rathian set
2. seems like pink rathian armor
3. S rank armor upgrade.
the optimal choice would be the S rank upgrade right? what if i continue upgrade the rathian set and not choosing S rank, can i do it later?

When it branches, U/S what have you, you choose that path and end up with that armour to improve, you can't go back.
Also, if you chose another path other than the original, the skills will change almost every time if not for certain.

Typically, S path will have more defence. U path will have more slots/skills.

Reia S: max def - 587
Performance Guard +1 (+14)

Reia Hart: Max def. - 475
Regionally +1 (+15)

while we are on the subject, i assume to make the S path, you need rathian + pieces? if this is true, what hr is required before you can fight them?

Ian+ or Upper Ians are HR31+
I forget if you need upper ian to improve to S, but it's a safe bet that you will once you get to it. It should be lvl3 and then improve to lvl4 or S.

Reia has four paths:
Normal Reia.
Reia S.
Reia Hart. (synonymous with U sets)
Golden Moon.

ok so i will aim for reia hart then ^^ since i need pink rathian parts to upgrade my armor
EDIT: just to confirm, is golden moon a set used to get better rewards? just want to confirm if it functions like in MHP2G
