A similar situation happened to me, but on Gaoren. This was on my old account though. How I was able to barely finish, I don't know. (was my urgent, I had crappy weapons at the time)
It was at the final area, and they said to abandon, since they weren't doing enough damage, and the person going adren said they didn't have armor to get hit, no ammo, etc. So they stayed in camp. The other 2 talked about abandoning and "leaving this guy's quest since it was a waste of time," in which, all 3 left. I was somewhat annoyed at that, and didn't care if I failed/repelled/killed Gao, I was actually taking out frustrations on Gaoren, and I checked the clock after a while of just hitting his legs with my hh, which was all I had at the time that was strong.
Anyway, long story short... I was somehow able to kill it alone and finish my urgent. Thankfully it didn't destroy the castle fast either, so luck mostly played a part on this, along with the dragonator too, which they didn't use yet. When I saw the "action scene!" of the camera showing a air view of Gaoren, I'm thinking, "FFFFF- NO NOT A FAI- wait, what?" and saw it falling. Kinda left me with blank thoughts after that.
By the way, the weapon was that Khezu hh, barely created, no upgrades.
